Crab Game is a video game made by Dani using the Unity Engine and its particle system. It was released on Steam on October 29, 2021. Dani released the devlog video on October 29, 2021. Initially released for Microsoft Windows, versions for macOS and Linux have since been released.

Overview

Crab Game, is a first-person multiplayer game where the player tries to win money by participating in "children's games". The concept of Crab Game is directly inspired by the popular pop Korean TV show Squid Game, where the participants have to outcompete each other in challenges, while those who fail are killed. Some of the game modes that Dani included are similar to those seen in Bean Guys.

Minigames

• Tag - Avoid having the stick when the time reaches 0
• Bomb Tag - Incrementally, every 30 seconds, a bomb spawns, and after 30 seconds, whoever holds it explodes violently
• Hide and Seek - Try to find and kill a Hider as the Seeker, avoid Seekers as the Hider, Seekers have explosive microchips that can disarm
• Hat King - Hold the hat to gain points, have the highest points to avoid dying violently
• Snow Brawl - Throw snowballs at other players to damage them, simply survive to live
• Red Light Green Light - Make it to the finish line without moving in Dani's sight
• Stepping Stones - Make it across a glass bridge, each step having two options, one of which kills
• King of the Hill - Stay in the holographic sphere at the top of the map longer than other's to get points
• Floor is Lava - Jump from rock to rock as they incrementally break until the timer runs out
• Race - Get to the goal area before other people before the timer hits 0
• Bustling Buttons - Choose your options, one out of the five colored buttons have a implemented kill switch connected to your microchip
• Tile Drive - Players try to touch as many of the tiles match their team's corresponding colors, the lowest scoring team's microchips detonate
• Dodge Ball - Throw snowballs at the other teams players to detonate them via gunpowder
• Death from Above - A giant board with various cut out square holes will slam down onto the island, go for the holes to not get crushed
• Block Drop - Giant blocks will drop from the sky, in a Tetris-esque style, don't get crushed and try to maintain a high ground and don't get trapped
• Lights Out (Technically excluded) - Kill others and/or make alliances to stay alive
• Baseball (Trailer only) - It is apparently a game where you knock other teams out of bounds to win
• Standoff (Removed) - With only 6 bullets, shoot at other Players while trying to keep your own penalties low
• Crab Fight - Work together to kill a Giant Crab named Tantan via Gunpowder Snowballs scattered around the Island before he kills you

Crab Fight

Tantan's Abilities:

• Shockwave Stomp: Jump once or twice to avoid the shockwave or get blasted off the Island
• Crustaceous Spikes: Avoid the warning zones while he forms spikes to shoot through the ground or risk fall damage
• Sand Meteors: Avoid the warning zones while he calls meteors made of sand to fall
• Claw Crush: Stay behind him or beside him while he ready's his attack

Tip: You can tactically slide underneath him if he's not doing any attacks.

Cosmetics

Dani added cosmetics to his game, which is one of Dani's first paid in-game content. Cosmetics can range from color, with the rarest being Golden. Some Cosmetics can also glow.

Bugs

Crab Game public servers were once plagued by DDoS attacks, so Dani advised players to not play on public servers. This has since been fixed.

Easter Eggs

1. A Karlson Vibe image can be seen in one of the maps: this was posted to Dani's subreddit.
2. Text reading "Map designed by TanTan" can be found in the lava map.
3. A secret hiding place can be found on the Small Saloon map. ;)

Trivia

• This is Dani's third Steam game (second if you don't count Karlson (3D)'s demo version).
• The description says:
  "Players fight each other using guns and melee weapons. There is blood and gore during fights, but pretty light hearted and cartoony."
• *There is no milk in this game, despite the description claiming that there is milk, but there is now a Cosmetic for milk.
  • Further more, other parts of the description are outdated or false, such as map and player count
  • Even more, Crab Game has a dedicated game to the game's name called Crab Fight. like Squid game which had an actual Squid Game.
• There is an unused minigame in the Crab Game trailer called "Baseball", it is a team minigame where you have to push the other team out of bounds to win.
• Although Squid Game was released before Crab Game, Dani and his fans jokingly claim that Squid Game stole the concept of Crab Game.
• The bomb in bomb tag minigame resembles a Modèle 1847 grenade with a burning wick instead of a fuse.
• The money prize has a label saying "The United States of Muck", which states the possibility that Crab Game may take place in Muck, or the money comes from Muck.
• Red Light, Green Light and Stepping Stones are ripped directly from Squid Game, as well as one of the map counterparts of each being based on the respective sets.
• Dani uses joke names for map types: this is evidenced by one of the maps in Hat King being named "Mini Monke".
• On January 14, 2022, Dani posted a video where he rewrote all of the code in Crab Game, added a Giant Vicious Crab called Tantan (based on a small YouTuber and game developer named Tantan), and made some other adjustments to the game, all because Steam allegedly threatened to remove it from the Steam store.
